I visited McKinney Falls State Park on a warm spring day in Texas. I say warm, but for Texas, 70 degrees isn’t exactly warm. Coming from a small town in Indiana, though, 70 degrees in March feels like a godsend.
The park was gorgeous. We started our hike on the Onion Creek trail which was a paved 3ish mile long trail that ended at the Upper Falls. Because we aren’t big fans of paved paths, we took short excursions onto Cactus trail (where we found seas of cacti) and Armadillo trail (where we saw ZERO armadillos). We ended the day on Rock Shelter trail, where my hiking partner and avid archeologist was able to admire the strata.
Overall, the park was a much-needed escape. This semester of grad school has been tough, and being outside was exactly what I needed to recharge before the final stretch. Somewhere along those trails, the idea for this blog was born – why not share the places I’ve been and the adventures ahead?
Soon, I’ll be heading to Indonesia, and Hunter by Nature will dive into the realities of fieldwork, which can be both thrilling and challenging.
